Absolutely Coco About Coconuts

Coconut Oil! You’ve seen it on Pinterest and YouTube, read about it on all of the beauty blog sites and have probably even seen it in the store, but you’re still left wondering, “should I believe the hype?” I’m here to tell you YES! You should because coconut oil is an amazing product. Now, there are a variety of different uses for coconut oil but here are the my top uses for this miracle in jar. Here we go!

Hair
Pre-poo (pre-shampoo) Naturalistas pre-pooing can be an essential step in a wash routine. Why? It softens the follicles which locks in moisture, nourishes scalp and roots since coconut oil gives a protective coating on the entire hair strand especially the ends.
Section hair, take a small amount of coconut oil and apply it to each section. Let it sit for 10 minutes then proceed to washing the hair.
Deep Conditioner:
Apply it in place of regular conditioner to damp hair.
Section hair off in 4 quadrants and saturate the hair with the coconut oil. Place a plastic cap over your hair, allow it to sit for 30 minutes without a under hood dryer or under a hood dryer for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it out.
Hair Moisturizer:
Use a pea size amount, rub it in palms, and distribute it evenly throughout hair. Style as usual.

Moisturizer
Face Moisturizer:
Take a pea size amount of coconut oil and massage it to the face in an upwards motion specifically to the dry areas into the skin. The results will leave your skin soft and to top it off, a nice glow.
Body Moisturizer:
Apply immediately after showering to lock in the moisture while your pores are still open. I especially like to use it right after using a body scrub. I’ll give you all my favorite DIY body scrubs in a future post.

Oral Care
Teeth Whitening:
Coconut oil is a great way to naturally whiten your teeth in the form of “pulling” due to the natural anti-fungus properties. I know you’re thinking…”GROSS.” It’s honestly not that bad. The initial taste of it is kind of weird, but it goes away after you’ve been swishing it around for a minute. Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic practice that is over 3,000 years old that stops bacteria from growing inside your mouth.
Pulling:
Either before or after you brush your teeth, pull one tablespoon of melted coconut oil by swishing it around your mouth for 20 minutes. Spit then rinse your mouth.

There you have it, my top three uses for coconut oil! I plan on trying many more, and I will update you all with the ones that I absolutely love.

If you have done any of these or plan on trying, please let me know in the comment section below. I definitely want to know!
