Thirsty Skin Be Gone! Winter Skincare

The season of the dry skin is in full bloom so that means the skin, more like my skin craves hydration and moisture. For my winter skincare routine, that's funny. I never thought I'd say that, meaning the cleaning and moisturizing process I start like this.

Remove Makeup
Remove eye makeup with Vaseline or baby oil. That's if I actually wear it that day. I tend to keep it pretty simple when going to my 9-5 and then on the weekend is when I literally paint my face on. It's so much fun.

Cleanse Face
ELF Cosmetics Daily Face Cleanser

Lately I have been obsessed with Elf Cosmetics Daily Face Cleanser. Priced at only $5 this thing is absolutely wonderful. I dampen my face and only apply a pea size amount to the palms of your hands. A little goes a long way. Working up a lather using small circles, it creates a great foam and removes the rest of the makeup. Rinse again and towel blot your face dry. Do not rub. I use this every 2-3 days.
Loelle Morroccan Black Soap
On the 4th day I switch it to Loelle's Moroccan Black Soap with Eucalyptus. This soap smells amazing and only a small amount goes a long way. Like the ELF Daily Cleanser, dampen the face, apply a dime size amount to the corner of a cotton towel and work the product into the face in circular motions. Do not scrub and try to avoid the eyes.

Hydrate and Moisturize
Tarte Maracuja Oil
I absolutely love Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizer + and also Tarte Cosmetics Maracuja Oil. Coming in small sizes, I purchase the sample size of Clinique's $5 and I had received a sample size thanks to Ipsy of the Maracuja Oil $15. Using the eyedropper tool of the Maracuja Oil I apply 5 small drops to the forehead, cheeks, above the lips and the neck. I then apply a pea size amount of the moisturizer to my hands and apply it to the entire face and neck and circular motions. It feels amazing. It doesn't feel heavy and you will have a bit of a glow but not one that is so much that the sun will be jealous. It is a healthy glow.

This routing I do almost on a daily. I am not sure what I am going to do when I run out that Maracuja Oil then. The full price of the bottle is $48 and I am tempted to purchase more products.

As I always say, "Quality over quantity. F*ck it. I will try both."

Dry Winter Lips Solved with Wet n' Wild Cosmetics

Winter lips can be so dry but there is always a solution. Did you know that by scrubbing your lips and applying lip moisturizer can help keep those pillows moisturized and plumped particularly during the dry, holidays months?! Oh and not only that but moisturizing lipsticks meaning the classic form of lipsticks before all of these different finishes came out like matte lipsticks do not hold in moisture. Usually well lately I have been obsessed with matte lipsticks like the suede ones by NYX Cosmetic, and the ones that I am not willing to purchase yet, by Anastasia Beverly Hills are the ones that keep your lip color looking fabulous without smudging. However the problem with those during these months is the lack of moisture. So now what.  Back to the basics of course!

Obsessed: Wet n' Wild Lipstick $1.00
If you have been reading my blog for a while then you know I have a problem with cosmetics. I hoard them. I love them. I can't stop buying them. I'll go broke for them. That's a problem. Yes. I know. But, I have been on the hunt to find the best moisturizing lipstick for the lease amount of money. Last year I discovered Wet n' Wild again. I knew of them from when I was a teenager 5 finger discounting their cosmetics. I currently I love their liquid and pencil eyeliners and for over a year now I have fallen madly in love with their lipstick. Like so in love that I find myself buying lipsticks more than I actually wear them. Currently I am obsessed with their fall colors. Yes, I know that it is Winter now. Don't judge me. I mean hello, we all know the same Winter colors are either a bright Christmas red or either a dark red and seductive red. But I love the chocolate reds, burnt oranges, red oranges and the browns hug my lips so perfectly. I absolutely love them. If they had a black color, I'd buy that as well.

moisturizing lipstick

This lipstick is smooth and pigmented. Glides on so perfectly that you are in awe of the fact that this piece of goodness is $1.00. The packaging is a hard plastic with a black bottom and a clear, see through top that has 1/8th of the color showing so you can see what you are purchasing however the design has a curve to close on the lid instead of the basic round opening to snap close. I absolutely love that because so many brands hide that and you don't even know what color you are getting until you get home. Like hello, who wants to play a guessing game. I know that I do not. The actual shape of the lipstick is a bit pointed as if it was made for individuals who are looking to perfectly line their lips as they apply.

moisturizing lipstick
The longevity of the lipstick hopefully is longer than the mega last lipstick. That one was a little over a year with a few months to spare. Still smooth and creamy when applied however if you do not use it as much as a beauty biche should then a semi-dry and hard coating around the perimeter will develop. Is still good however he may want to toss it out and get another one. Remember it's only $1.00.

As I always say, "Quality over quantity. Fuck it." I will try both."

Loelle RoseChip Oil. Anti-aging Treatment For The Face and Neck

Rosehip Oil, I need more of you.

It seems to be about the time that I am running out of everything. 3 weeks ago I ran out of my Rosehip Oil that I had been using on my face and neck as a moisturizer and anti-aging treatment for almost 7 months. It was a sad day but I knew what to do.

Hello budget, but know how to make something from nothing, lady.
rosehip oil
Being as financially aware that I can be I simply refilled the bottle 3/4 of the way with purified water and let it sit for a week. Letting it sit for that amount of time allowed the oil that was left in the bottle to loosen up and mix with the water. And they say oil and water doesn't mix. Someone told a lie. Hello, that is how most marinades are made when you are cooking. Anyhow using the eyedropper tool that it came with I know and like usual apply little drips on the driest part of my face and neck and massage.

Application Method:
rosehip oil

  1. Cleanse face with a moisturizing face cleanser that is cream based not gel. I say cream because we are trying to keep the face moisturized and not dried out during the cold months.
  2. Towel blot dry with a fluffy, cotton towel or even 100% cotton shirt. Do not rub. Blot dry.
  3. Apply small drops the diluted Rosehip to the driest parts of the face and neck specifically around cracks of nose, mouth and chin area. Massage it into the skin blending into the hairline and by the ears
  4. Apply face primer and makeup as usual.

DIY Rose Flower Water Face Toner

Rose Flower Water by Loelle has been my favorite since first mist. The smell, the crisp, clean feel. The refreshing feeling of being awakened by the goodness of a natural scent of a rose. It's pure and lovely. Excuse me, but I am absolutely obsessed with fresh flowers, particularly fresh roses. However, Loelle, bottles this goodness in a brown tinted glass with purified water that has been infused with rose petals. They remove the petals but the aroma is absolutely wonderful. Literally one whiff and you are in love with it.

Recently I had almost ran out of my this goodness in a bottle spray until I got the best birthday gift ever. A Joey Rose. I never heard of this rose.
natural skincare, rose flower water
Probably because I am not a connoisseur of roses, but I am a collector of beautiful items. Mostly cosmetic tho. Don't judge me. But the rose bloomed and smelled so wonderful that coming home and opening my door to the scent and view of a fresh rose was simply amazing. The colors was a bright orange with traces of dark, burnt orange in the middle. The flower lasted about 5-6 days. Open and bloomed within 2-3 days.  A little bummed that the rose's petals were turning colors and one or 2 petals had fell off, I remembered that my Loelle's Rose Flower water was almost non-existent.

DIY Rose Flower Water $0
natural skincare, rose flower water
Not really wanting to touch the fragile petals, I held the flower by the stem and shook the flowers onto the countertop and turned on lukewarm water. I would suggest purified water but I did not have any so I used tap. In Wisconsin, in my city, our tap water in this county is one of the cleanest in the state. Filling the bottle 3/4 full, I individually rolled about 4-5 petals and carefully pushed them into the glass bottle. When they were all in, I put the top back on and turned the bottle to the side and let it sit for 10 hours. Why so long? Partly because I forgot about it however about 2-3 hours is pretty good. The next morning, I pressed down on the nozzle a few times, awakening my skin as I inhaled the fresh and most beautiful smell of roses a girl could ever dream of.

Super happy that I kept this bottle and remade the goodness. FYI you can use this as a toner, refresher, makeup setting spray to tone down the super matte look, or to add moisture to the face during these next few cold months.

Quality over quantity. Fuck it. I'll try both.

Matte, Not Smudge Free bareMinerals Ultra Matte Lipstick

It's new and I got it! Over the past year I've nee seeking matte liquid lipsticks that have a holding power of 4 on a scale of 1-5. 4 being that i can take it off just as easy seemingly easy it was to put it on. FYI Anastasia Beverly Hills more like Omra aka Amrezy from Instagram is the one who got me hooked on finding the next best for less but technically this one is not much cheaper. A few months ago I had almost gone with MAC'S version but I hated the packaging. I am a stickler for lip product packaging. Meaning if it is too clunky and the lid is like super glossy I probably won't like it. Not sure why I am like that but I just am.

Back to the goods...

Semi Obsessed
bareMineral Ultra Matte Lipstick

bareMinerals aka bareEssentials Ultra Matte lipstick goes on like Palladio's liquid lipstick. You can outline your lips first with the product or use a lip liner then fill in the lips with the product. For this lipstick, I prefer to use their Moxie Lip Liner otherwise it will definitely bleed onto the skin. The consistency is thin but buildable. The more you apply the more opaque it become. The staying power is pretty excellent except it does smear all over the place if you are not careful.
Apply after you get dressed because it will smear on your clothes. Apply after you eat your food otherwise you will look like The Joker from the Dark Knight. If you do not eat then it holds for 4 hours without any touch-ups. If you touch your lips, you will possibly smudge your lips or get product on your clothes so be careful. It happened to me. What I also dislike about the product is that although it has the matte look, it doesn't necessarily have that matte, no smudge finish.

Overall I do like the product, it's a great attempt at mineral based, higher end matte liquid lipstick but I probably won't be using it all. Quality over quantity. Fuck it. I'll try both.

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

What to to do with old mascara that perfectly matches your eyebrow color? Keep It! Yes, it may be a bit dry but add a bit of water or a drop of rosehip oil. Shake the tube better yet use the mascara wand to move it around in circles, pump the wand is ever so slightly stir and remove. Trust… It will thoroughly mix the product.

You’re probably wondering how I came up with this right? Well, first of all I am on a very, very tight budget and I also have a ton of makeup that I still have yet to finishing using or even open. So before I open a new product I want to get more use out of each opened one before I toss it out to try out the new-new beauty. Now as I was going through my makeup bag and then I realized there it was. This bottom lash mascara that I sought out for 2 hours one day in Millenia Mall. It was my favorite at the time and now that I think about it, I do not now know why I stopped using it, however I kept it.

Side Note
With each liquid makeup that is used to near your eyes, the use of this product should not exceed 6 months. Why? It can cause an eye infection if you use it more than that due to the fact that bacteria is grabbed from the air. Then naked to the human eye has fallen on the wand and when you go to apply the product to your eyes, you accidently blink your eye and get some liquid from your eyes onto the mascara wand nonchalantly inserting the want back in the tube. And OPPS! There starts the buildup. I have such a colorful imagination but that is how I envision the beginning stages of the how infectious are caused by liquid eye makeup.

bottom lash mascara

I love this mascara because of the spoolie aka mascara wand. It is so small that brushing the product through the hairs of either eyelashes or eyebrows it gives it the right amount of coverage. The wand is not too long and it is not to short. The packaging of the tube is super cute. I love the grayish almost metallic like bottle. Not in the waterproof formula which makes this mascara removal process easy, which I love because I hate sleeping with my faux and “flawless face” on. The only thing I didn’t like and equally loved about this product is that it is a no-clump formula. Not sure if that is what they were going for but my gosh, they’ve got it. Glad it doesn’t clump and layers every so slightly.

How To Apply To Eyebrows

bottom lash mascara

  1. Brush brow hairs up and in the direction of growth
  2. With the mascara wand do the same and add pressure to areas you’d like more opaque
  3. When brow hairs are thoroughly tinted and tamed, clean and sharpen the arch with concealer or foundation.
So now you know. Before you ditch the used product for a new one, try a different use for it.

Bitzy Nail Polish Remover Pads

I hate this damn bottle of nail polish remover! We have all said it before. You know removing nail polish can be a real bit*h. I absolutely love painting my feet. I would say my hands but I prefer to paint and do outrageous or simple nail art on my feet. I figure with my feet I can be as creative as I want without the judgment. With painting my fingernails I have to stick with certain colors and shapes. They cannot be too long and they cannot be too pointy. Like they cannot look like cat claws, which I absolutely adore but I cannot wear. For me, painting my feet well more like giving myself a pedicure is the most relaxing part of my day. I know that there are plenty of professionals out there who can do it for me, but I like to know that the foot tube that I am using as been sanitized thoroughly. I need to know that I will develop a fungus because someone didn’t properly wash and bleach the entire tub. Just to think about it makes my freaken bloody boil. Anyhow back to my point… nail art. Nail art or painting the nails with multiple coats of polish is time consuming but what is even more time consuming is the removal process.

Obsession:
acetone nail polish remover

I am absolutely and head over heels in love with these polish removing pads. Why? Because although it does contain acetone, it does have ingredients that do not dry out your hands after you have used the product. This plastic pink container of goodness comes packed with 32 pads with a scent of artificial watermelon. Idk why I picked watermelon but then again I do. The container was a pink container and I was going to use it for the Scratch of Sweden vendor booth I was working last month. ( I decorated the booth pink, white and gold. Super cute check out the Instagram video). Back to the point, when you open the lid of the container you are immediately happy. The pads are cute in cute as* daisy shapes and they smell of happiness. Each pad is thin however is packed with so much product that you will wonder how it is not dripping on your hands at that point in time. Doing a trial test I was so surprised that literal with on small touch, this pad had already removed the polish from my finger. And with a little more pressure, it had completely removed the polish from my fingers. Like this stuff is literally the best thing since… ish. Idk, but it is some pretty good stuff.

The normal method to remove nail lacquer aka nail polishes is with non-acetone nail polish remover and some piece of cotton. The method that I like to use for removal is this:
Pour nail polish removal into a plastic or glass container that has a pump for easy access and less spills.
Set out a few cotton rounds, square or balls. At the minimum have at least 5. 2 per finger.
Push down on the pump to saturate the middle of the cotton
Push the cotton on the nail containing polish and let it soak into the nail for 15 seconds.
Now move the cotton around in small circles.
If any areas still have polish on them repeat the previous 3 steps

Easier Method
Take your a** to Sally’s Beauty Supply and pick up a container of Bitzy Nail Polish Remover Pads!
Push the pads on the nail containing polish and let it soak into the nail for 15 seconds.
Now move the pads around in small circles.
If any areas still have polish on them repeat the previous step

Ok. Stop reading now and move on to the next entry.

Highlighters & Illuminators by Anastasia Beverly Hills and NYX Cosmetics

Confessions of a Makeup Hoarder

I haven’t been using many new products lately because I’ve become obsessed with unopened products that I already have. That being said let’s talk about how obsessed I am with highlighters and illuminators. Wait! Aren’t they basically THE SAME! All these damn fancy words that they are coming out with. Oh and do not forget to mention that they are also bronzers since they add a tint of glow to the skin as well.

Currently my 2 faves include 1 that I have spoken about previously and the other I have literally just opened. The first is my boo, my baby NYX Cosmetics Illuminator in “Ritualistic” $9

NYX FACE HIGHLIGHTER ILLUMINATOR

and the other is my new beauty biche Anastasia Beverly Hills (ABH) Highlighters specifically in “So Hollywood” $28. OMG! Holly balls! I equally am obsessed with them both but when I look at “So Hollywood” I want to slather that ish everywhere. Like everything can be highlighted. I am actually highlighting my cupid’s bow these days, which is so unlike me, but this damn highlighter makes me want to do it.
ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS HIGHLIGHTER

“So Hollywood”, I love this illuminator. From the first application using my fan brush I thought that barely anything got on my cheekbones and then I slightly turned my head. There was that glow that I saw all over Instagram. That glow shined so bright that I literally felt like a star. Like I was getting in touch with my inner BeyoncĂ© and knew I was slaying. With every slight movement there was all the glowing glory. It was amazing. It is amazing. Like I love it equally to “Ritualistic” which is 1/3 of the price by the way.

Similarities
Both of them come prepackaged in a black cardboard box with a imprinted label of the brand. When you open it up both products are in a shiny, black, circular compact container where you open it up and there is a mirror on the flip side and the product on the other. However ABH the circular container is larger in height while NYX is a little vertically challenged. When you look at the container and the amount of product with a naked eye, ABH seem to have less product and NYX has more. Both are heavily pigmented with a shimmery finish hence the words “Illuminator and Highlighter” so a little goes a long way.

To apply I use a fan brush by Elf Cosmetics. It is isn’t as dense as my fan brush from Eco Tools which is what I prefer because if you just slightly rub the brush into the products and apply it to the highest points of your cheekbones, literally 4 strokes is enough.

I believe my obsession with highlighters is about to take its peak. I mean hello! Have you all not seen or tried the glow kits by Anastasia? Those are on my bucket list along with more goodies from NYX Cosmetics. Besides it’s “Quality over quantity. Fuck it. I’ll try both.”
