Confessions... Hello Sweden

Words cannot explain how excited I am to receive new cosmetics from Sweden. First off I have been on a mission to find more eco friendly and skin friendly products for my cosmetic addiction. Second off, Sweden is known for their environmentally friendly products and overall practices in their day to day lives. Third, my extended family lives in Sweden and my 2nd cousin is in the cosmetics industry as well. As a matter of fact she owns the nail polish brand Scratch of Sweden which I also happen market, distribute and create brand partnerships for this brand. Right now I the struggle is real. Working everyday to increase brand awareness in new market and redesigning the USA website is like sitting down for a 3 hour hair salon service. Completely Optional, but definitely worth the rewards in the end. Back to my point. So my cousin was at a Swedish beauty expo this past November and she stumbled upon a makeup booth called Palina. Oh Palina. How I may be thanking you later. I think we will be a match made in cosmetic hoarding.

A little about Palina (and why I'll probably become obsessed).
Palina is a cosmetics brand based out of Sweden named after the makeup artist Palina Lina Ivarsson. After being a makeup artist for over 14 years she wanted an alternative that was healthier for the skin. Products that are free from mineral oils (which can clog the pores), alcohol (which dries out the skin), and irritating ingredients, but she also wanted her products to be "moisturizing, soothing and anti-inflammatory". Like Scratch of Sweden they also look for environmentally friendly and ethical ways to produce their product, which I absolutely love. Produce in Italy and use "of plants that fulfil GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)".  I am beyond excited that she stumbled upon your products.

What did she bring me? Oh, she brought me the good good.

Skin Perfecting Veil in the color Sydney $47
Mineral pressed powder

Cozy Gloss in Cilla $23
A fuchsia pink lip gloss

Kabuki in Sleeve $41
A retractable, travel size powder, foundation or blush brush with lid.

Swedish chocolate $0
Although it is perfectly wrapped and probably yummy. Me and my little, health conscious self will have to turn it down:-(

Beyond excited to try these products for the new year or more like whenever I have time, I will definitely be posting my looks and doing some product comparisons. Thank you Palina and thank you family for bringing the Swedish cosmetics to America. Oh, wait a minute. She brought me even more, so I will be obsessing about those later.

Palladio Hit Me With The 1-2 Punch. Review of Lip Lacquer and Velvet Matte

Palladio has had some hits with me but lately it has been touch and go. I've been on a hunt for matte finish lip colors. I knew I wanted a smooth and creamy application but I wanted a very pigmented yet matte finish.  That being said, I took my hunt to Ulta after seeing an advertisement for their lip products on Instagram. Very determined to get that matte finish here is the result.

Obsession #1: Palladio Lip Lacquer $8

Ok so I am obsessed with the lip lacquer. The intensity of the color when layered and the fact that my lips look so juicy that I could just give kisses all day long. Muahx:-x Muah:-x So since I have become obsessed with finding drugstore but natural based cosmetic brands Palladio has been my biche, my boo, my alternative. So when looking for more lip colors and finishes. Sorry, I'm rambling again. Let's talk their Lip Lacquer.

The packaging is clean, and not cluttered. The ingredient list was minimal which was perfect because if it had more than 10 ingredients and names that I do not recognize, I'd feel a bit iffy. I love that it comes in a tube with a wand and I do not have to squeeze out to product. Opening the bottle and applying for a swatch test. I applied a generous amount on my wrist. The application was very smooth, a bit sticky but the ability to layer was great along with the longevity. I also loved that it was a sale item if purchased at Ulta. Winning:-). I really liked that the color was very intense when applied however the color I was expecting when looking at the bottle was a brown/nude color, turned out to be a brown/pink color. It threw me off but didn't make me want to return the item. You stay. No on the other hand...

I am not totally obsessed with the Velvet Matte Cream Colors but first off I love, love, love the packaging. When I was looking for the product I thought it was lipstick because of the way they molded the inside to resemble an actual lipstick but then I picked it up, I realized it was not. Palladio, you cray cray for that one. I wonder how many people walked away when they were attempting to buy because of that... The tub was plastic and the black top twisted off revealing a wand similar to the one from the lip lacquer.

Now this one, I didn't swatch on my wrist because I didn't want to go through the hassle of finding the right way to remove it which happened to be simple. Dove soap and water. Anyhow, yes, the smooth and creamy application on my lips was excellent and it left the feeling as if it dried within seconds after apply which was awesome because it got even darker however it was not smudge proof. Not good. I actually lined my lips a little with the product which worked pretty good. Velvet Matte has a great lasting power when layered but, I didn't like when I drank out a glass and small particles of the product was on the rim. I'd expect that from the lacquer which is a gloss but not the matte, but I am happy that the colors are true unlike the lacquer. Both the lacquer and matte are available at Ulta and Sally's Beauty Supply and can usually be found buy 1, get 1 half off or $3 off a $10 or more purchase.

Not as obsessed as I want to be, but you know my model, "Quality over quantity. Fuck it. I'll try both."

Confessions... Perfecting Gone Wrong

Remember when I said sample before you buy? Well I did and this time the samples totally fucked up my face. Or more like my face was not feeling the product that I choose to sample and had a horrible allergic reaction. Before I tell you which product made my face break out, I'll start by saying that I am a perfectionist. I strive to be a perfectionist although deep down I know that I will never be perfect nor will my makeup, hair, eyebrows and even my body. It is purely impossible. BUT. Yes. There is a but. But, I can find products, seek home remedies, go to specialists that can help hide and of course seek advice from other perfectionists.

One perfectionist I met years ago through a friend is one of the reasons why I strive for and know that perfect skin is obtainable because this lady has the most gorgeous skin I have ever seen. It could be hereditary or cosmetic but I know for a fact that she gets Botox, microdermabrasion and uses over the counter products that include retinol. Taking her advice and researching so e products at the nearest department store lead me to Macy's.

Spending about a half an hour looking for the right product, a beauty advisor recommended Philosophy and StriVectin. Philosophy's "The Microdelivery" almost won with their chemical peel pads but instead I took home some samples of StriVectin New Advanced Retinol Pore Refiner cream due to the retinol ingredient. Eager to start the diminishing process, I hurried home to cleanse my face and applied a small amount of the StriVectin cream to the dark spots. 3 days later I looked like someone injected granules of sand all over my face. This lasted until about 4 days ago. I really wanted to give this product more time but my face wouldn't allow it due the unattractive nature of the bumps and growing and flaming irritation that seem to get worse everyday. Needless to say, I was the definition of "cake face" trying to hid all that shit.

Unfortunately this skincare product did not work for me, but for those who aren't allergic to retinol, this may be for them. Not to mention the fact that I researched more about StriVectin and they are primarily known for anti-aging products not blemish reducing products. Disappointed with the beauty advisor who recommended this but happy I stuck with sampling before purchasing, I found out that I don't need anti-aging products because fortunately I am not aging fast, my pores don't need to be reduced, however my blemishes still need to disappear so my perfect skin can appear.

Thank you but no thank you StriVectin.

Cream & Gel Eyeliner Favs

I have 2 favorite cream eyeliners that I just can't live without. One I discovered at Target and it was by Elf. The other was by Mica sent to me courtesy of Boxy Charm. Right now I can't decide which one I like more but considering I use 2 different brushes to apply both the cream eyeliners.

Obsession #1: Elf Cream Eyeliner in Black $5

Coming in waterproof formula this is pretty black. So black that it makes my dark brown eyes appear lighter than they actually are. Ideal for creating the perfect wing liner, this cream formula is perfectly formulated and can be compared to higher end cosmetics due to the smooth consistency and lasting power. Ideal for an overnight or a night on the town, you don't have to worry about it smudging or wearing off. Like for real. I wore this biche for 10 hours one day, tried to wash it off without makeup remover and it was still slightly on my eyelids. I love that but I also dislike it. Not even dipping the brush into the jar completely, one touch is enough to create the perfect amount of coverage which brings me to my other favorite.

Oh My Gosh! I have died and gone to gel eyeliner heaven. When I say I love this shit. Like I fucken looovvveee it so much. I just opened this eyeliner last week and I am beyond impressed. First off the brush that Boxy Charm included with my beauty box was cute but I had another eyeliner brush that was waiting to be used. Slightly touching the tip of the brush into the eyeliner, I was beyond impressed. Like I could tell it was a gel but because it is so creamy I thought it was a cream based eyeliner. Having been a beauty biche since forever I knew that this small container of good good is and will be gone within a month or 2.

A sucker for a great product on any budget you know my model, "Quality over quantity. Fuck it. I'll try both."

Confessions... Sampling Day. Low Budget, Big Spender

Oh yeah, there it is. The new body scrub that I have been dying to try. I wonder if the sales girl can give me a few samples before I commit to buying this $30 - 8oz item. I know that they have the sample size containers because I've seen them so many times. They are these little half an ounce twist off containers that allow a few applications that will last at least 1-2 weeks max. Oh she better not even give me that look. Yes, biche I am sampling. Do not get all cray cray with me. Little does she know this is how most budget savvy people get obsessed with overpriced cosmetics. Oh great, she wasn't give me the look. She complemented me on my makeup. Yes, I know it is flawless. Thank you very much. I owe it all to Ms. Desi Perkins and Patrick Starr. Crap she is talking more, using the keywords I know and is trying to convince me to buy. Girl what do you not understand about me wanting to try before I buy? I commit to nothing. Not even the guy I'm seeing and we've been together forever. Stop talking. Stop talking. Stop talking. Oh finally. Well I guess I'll give her one of my business cards for Scratch of Sweden. Her nails are a bit ugh and she could use some Nail Food along with the Crystal Stone to push back the build up around her cuticles. Gosh, I could do wonders with this girl. She is talking again. Ok let me remind her again that this is a sampling day. Great she gets it and frowns. Don't worry lady, I'll be back real soon if it works. Real soon. Smile and exit. Thanks :-|

There comes a time when we must budget. Budgeting is for those (such as myself) that are looking to invest in the future but find it so difficult when you know that you are a big spender. Honestly, I think that right now I am on the verge of a mental breakdown because love my cosmetics. No like I freaken looovveee and am absolutely obsessed with buying new cosmetics on a weekly basis. The struggle is so real right now due to the fact that I am suffering because I cannot go out and purchase what I want. So what does a makeup hoarding biche like me do? I go to the mall and I get samples. Lots of samples. So many samples that when I leave Nordstrom, Macy's and Lush Cosmetics people look at me as if I purchased an entire collection. To me sampling before you buy especially for the face is crucial. So crucial that I have it down to a science.

Sampling cosmetics is like ordering appetizers from a restaurant that you have never been to before. You know what you like, what complements your palette and what you are willing to try.

  1. I have combination skin that is prone to blemishes and minor breakouts around the time Aunt Flo's as* decides to come around. I need blemish fighting and acne preventative products.
  2. I do not like cosmetics that are heavy in scent, thick in consistency and oil based. They are too heavy and does more irritating and clogging than cleansing, treating or preventing.
  3. I also do not like cosmetics that has more than 3 ingredients that I am not familiar with nor have ever heard of before (and I know a lot of the ingredients due to the fact that I am a professional and licensed cosmetologist). Too many unknown ingredients leads to too many unknown skin problems.
  4. If I cannot sample, I do not buy. I don't like surprises in life and I don't like surprises on my skin.

Now for all you who are not budgeting as I am, I still suggest sampling before you purchase cosmetics. Subscribe to beauty box subscription companies or go to Ulta, Sephora, Clinique, Shiseido, Eve Lom, Kiehl's and Lush Cosmetics. These places are the best and the amount of samples that they give you are even better.

Confessions... I Am Glamm

You know when your makeup addiction has been noticed by someone else and luckily for you they are asking to add to your to it gratis. Gratis? Yes, Gratis meaning FREE. Who doesn't love free cosmetics! Like literally I love sampling and trying new products. Luckily my skin can handle new products. If it could not, I definitely wouldn't be accepting all these new products. Getting back to my point.

Recently a beauty box/bag subscription company I Am Glamm reached out to me via email to sample their beauty bag. Super excited that someone even noticed my blog and to get free goodies I immediately responded with a "Yes. Send the goods." After accepting the offer I did some quick research and watched a YouTube video a few written reviews on boxes and what stood out the most to me was that they include a piece of jewelry which is pretty different. A few weeks later I opened my mailbox and saw this black bubble wrap envelope and I was in heaven.

I love the envelope that they send to their subscribers. The black bubble wrap envelope isn't loud in color like the Ipsy 's electric pink packaging but this one says, "This is important. Open me." Therefore I did.  I was literally floating in the air because I loved the envelope and I loved how the goodies were wrapped up in tissue paper and this cute little pink, furry stringed tied into a bow. How cute right.

What's In The Bag
The items that were sent me I would only wear on certain occasions but all of them were perfect for Halloween. A pair of some black faux feather eyelashes with a little bling, gold/metallic lipstick from Femme Couture, a snake faux silver bracelet and a bottle of pink nail polish that is supposed to glow in the dark. Key words supposed to. It doesn't glow.

I love that this bag was Halloween inspired because on a normal day I wouldn't wear any of these and since Halloween is my birthday one of my fav holidays, I will definitely rock these goodies. Stay tuned, I'll have some looks posted soon.

I Make Statements. So Susan "Statement Skin" Highlighting Crayon

Obsession: So Susan Statement Skin $20

I am completely obsessed with highlighting or should I say making my face glow. Courtesy of the Boxy Charm I received a package with full size samples that included a highlighting crayon by So Susan. This highlighting crayon is so great. It has no mineral oils, parabens, no phthylates and made with organic chai seed which moisturizes the skin as you glide this gorgeous highlighter on your skin. Super excited that I got this goodie, allow me to tell you more about it.

"Statement Skin" comes in a nice crayon tube form that fits perfectly in any hand. Because it is so similar to a pen tool the bottom also turns to release more highlighter. Love that. I hate beauty tools that I have to sharpen. It is very time consuming you know. Anyhow, yes the texture. The texture is smooth and the consistency is definitely thick to keep it shapes but when slightly pressed down it leaves it's marked on the skin screaming "Biche, I'm Here So Let's Glow!" As I turn the crayon I can see small specks of sparkles everywhere that has both a silver and a gold undertone making this an ideal beauty find for every skin tone.

Application Method
  1. Lightly press the crayon downward in the areas you'd like to highlight or standout:
  2. Upper cheekbones
  3. Down the bridge of the nose
  4. Slightly above the brows
  5. Middle of forehead
  6. With a small kabuki blush blend in circular motions
  7. Blend slightly into skin leaving a "glow" effect (Not like the one above. Be sure to blend)

This highlighting crayon is so great and well worth the nice ticket. Definitely versatile and brings out every angle on every skin type it almost makes me almost want to say adios  lesser priced NYC Luminzer, Statement Skin is my new biche. Just kidding. I'm keeping both those beauty biches. "Quality over quantity. Fuck it. I'll try both."

Heaven For Brow Taming

Ok I found another wax for my brows and I am Completely obsessed. First off my primary job is barbering / hairstyling therefore I need products that are just about the best. You would never know by the way men are so messy but they are extremely particular about the hair both on their head and on their face. That being said let me introduce you to my latest obsession.

This little $4 tub of goodness is like "Heaven!"  I fucken live for it. Coming in a .5oz tube and a twist off top makes it easy to store and reuse the product. When you squeeze a little out the tube, wax is consistency and the semi glossy color dissolves in your hand. I say your hand because you always want to search a product specifically one that will be going on face. Happy with the fact that it dissolves but yet holds the hair in place All Day Long, I was beyond ecstatic to find this steal.

Application Method

Prep brows by brushing them up and towards the outter corners
Squeezing from the bottom to the top place a tear size amount of the wax on a spoolie and brush it through the brows.
Making sure to evenly dispersed turn the spoolie as you brush through the brows
If brows are sparse in areas use a pencil liner to create hairlike strokes
Clean underneath arch with either a natural skin tone concealer or a highlighter

I still like my Eylure Defining Wax stick but this wax paste just may out the jumbo pencil to shame. "Quality over quantity. Fuck it. I'll try both."
